SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs  to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant  actors to bring  sustainable  positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

Position 1: TERMS OF REFERENCE REAL TIME REVIEW (RTR) Ethiopia Joint Response (EJR)

 Education

The SOS CV – EJR is looking for a lead consultant that: 

  • Demonstrated experience in evaluation of humanitarian programmes
  • A sound understanding of the context in the Horn of Africa, especially Ethiopia
  • Has knowledge about the local context of the JR.
  • Preferably experienced with implementing Rapid Real Time Reviews in the humanitarian field.
  • Expertise in one or more of the relevant technical areas (FSL, WASH, MPC, Health, Protection) for this response.
  • A sound knowledge of Humanitarian Principles including the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief; the Core Humanitarian Standard; and Sphere Minimum Standard in Humanitarian Response, as well as an appreciation of key challenges and constraints to their application in the relevant context.
  • Strong facilitation skills and a creative approach to participatory workshops that focus on collaborative learning.
  • Demonstrated analytical, communication and report-writing skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • CHS certification has added value
  • Desirable: A good understanding of DRA funding
  • The ability to travel within Ethiopia

Position 2: FCSP Project Officer

Must criteria

  • BA degree in a relevant subject area, such as community development, social work, social sciences, or public administration.
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant work experience in the field of community development or social services.

Competencies – knowledge, skills, & abilities

  • Fluent in the languages spoken in the program’s target communities
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Awareness and basic understanding of issues affecting orphans & vulnerable children, such as the causes of vulnerability (e.g. HIV & AIDS, gender discrimination, poverty, etc.), local and national responses, etc.
  • Basic computer skills (Windows, Word)
  • Understanding of child development issues, including knowledge of child rights, child protection, child welfare, childcare and parenting; and relevant local and national laws, regulations and protocols.
  • Understanding of family development and community development, and sustainability of program responses and outcomes.
  • Good analytical and reporting skills, including ability to identify problems and possible solutions, and ability to clearly reflect these in a report.
  • Counselling skills, including ability to advice, influence and guide program participants and other community members.
  • People development skills, including facilitation, coaching and mentoring skills, to build the capacities of co-workers from partner organizations; as well as of children and their care-givers, and other community members.
  • Collaboration skills, being driven to work with others and able to build strong working relationships community members and groups.
  • Experience in working with food Security project
  • Hands on experience in the promotion of IGA, SACCO/VSLA

Must Criteria

  •  Education: BA in Accounting, Business Administration, or other relevant field of study
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a similar position, preferably in the NGOs organization
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures including petty cash and payments.
  • Software: proficiency in MS applications especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and D-365
  • Communication: strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders.
  • Experience working with non-governmental organizations in similar positions

Position 4: Re-advertisement -Emergency project coordinator

Must Criteria

  • Education: MA/BA degree in Disaster risk Management or Development Studies, Social Sciences, agricultural economics, natural resource management or equivalent working experience
  • Experiences: Minimum 3 years of experience in leading and coordinating humanitarian aid and/or development work in multi-cluster INGOs, LNGOs
  • Experience or education in one of the following fields is an asset: child protection in emergencies, health, nutrition, WASH
  • Proven expertise and understanding of emergency preparedness and response, and development issues with a relevant technical competence in emergency needs assessment, project design, development, and implementation.
  • Extensive field experience in emergency and development program management, preferably with non-government organizations.
  • Substantial experience of non-formal, participatory training and staff development.
  •  In-depth knowledge of their own area of work.
Competencies – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Practical experience and knowledge of emergency project management including emergency needs assessment, project design, development and implementation
  • Good understanding of humanitarian issues and sympathy with the aims and objectives of the organization; commitment to humanitarian principles and the Red Cross and INGO’s code of conduct
  • Knowledge and good understanding of UNHCR standards of child protection in Emergency
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to cope with stress; patience and flexibility
  • Experience with establishing strong and effective working relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds, and cultures and experience
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with colleagues in the course of work
  • Local knowledge in terms of its culture, economic and social trends is an asset
  • Basic proficiency in the use of MS Office, Email and other computer applications
  • Willingness and ability to frequently travel to the field up to 70% of working time.
