 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Motivate farmer groups and Floresta Ethiopia staff and volunteers in sustainable farming practices.

  • Help farmer groups and Floresta staff/volunteers conduct participatory research on sustainable farming practices suitable to the Ethiopian High lands.

  • Seek out new ideas/techniques from communities, universities, the government, NGO's, or other actors both within Ethiopia and internationally that might help farmers in Andabet restore their farms and their sub-watershed.

  • Work with colleagues to develop a plan for restoration of the target sub-watershed.

  • Efficiently manage environmentally related staff/resources in order to have the greatest impact possible on communities in the target watershed.

  • Ability to equip FE staff/volunteers with strong facilitation skills in order to build self-managed farmer field schools.

  • Prepare the department's monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

  • Performs other additional duties assigned by the immediate Supervisor.

Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Floresta Ethiopia program and restoration ecology, as well as general environmental issues, 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in planning, undertaking, and reporting on ecological restoration activities, including weed control, according to best practice principles, Proficient in the use of hand tools and basic land management and/or ecological survey equipment, 
  • Holistic understanding of ecosystems, including the role of ecological processes, structure, function, connectivity, and disturbance, 
  • Experience and full competency with MS Office, including Word and Excel.  
  • Excellent all-around computer skills, including data management and general use of GIS software, 
  • Ability to travel statewide and to participate in occasional evening and weekend site visits.
  • Motor bike driving lisence is encouraged
