Safaricom Ethiopia is looking for a qualified person who meets the below criteria.  An international consortium including Vodafone Group owns Safaricom Ethiopia; Safaricom PLC; Vodacom Group; Sumitomo Corporation – one of the largest international trading and business investment companies; and British International Investment( BII) – the UK’s development finance institution and impact investor.  

Position 1 Administrative Head of Department Public Affairs( EHOD)  

Must have specialized professional qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, law, economics, communication, or analogous discipline 
  • More than 10 years of experience in  analogous/ related roles in government or a commercial entity 
  • Good relationships with stakeholders in the region. 
  • Professional usage of the region’s working language 
  • Must know the socioeconomic and political situation of the region and preferably work in the region.
  • Experience in community engagement in the region.  

Role purpose The position holder will be responsible for planning and executing indigenous public affairs strategies. The role is also responsible for regional government relations, CSR activities, managing indigenous media, playing a coordination role in indigenous activities, engaging the community, supporting ESG implementation, and representing Safaricom Ethiopia in the region to enable the company to achieve its commercial strategy and proactively mitigate risks for the operations of the company, contributing to the digital Ethiopia objective.

Position 2 Public Affairs Manager  

Must have specialized professional qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in political  wisdom, law, economics, communication, or  analogous discipline
  • More than 7 years of experience in  analogous/ affiliated roles in government or a commercial reality 
  • Good connections with stakeholders in the region. 
  • Professional usage of the region’s working language 
  • Must know the socioeconomic and political situation of the region and preferably work in the region. 
  • Experience in community engagement in the region.  

Role purpose The position holder will be responsible for managing public affairs, including indigenous government relations, CSR activities, managing indigenous media, playing a collaboration role in indigenous activities, engaging the community, supporting ESG implementation, and representing Safaricom Ethiopia in the region to enable the company to achieve its marketable strategy and proactively mitigate risks for the operations of the company, contributing to the digital Ethiopia objective.
