Position: Protection Intern

Background information/Organizational Context

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is providing a full-time internship opportunity for a talented and inspired candidate, with an outstanding interest in the subject of international refugee law and protection.

The internship will be inside Protection Unit of UNHCR Representation in Ethiopia. This exciting internship is a unique possibility to gain experience in worldwide refugee law and protection as nicely as in working within the UN system.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Collect, organize, and analyze applicable national and international laws, insurance policies and practices concerning the rights of refugees and asylum-seekers in Ethiopia for the purpose of RiMAP exercise.
  •  Enter satisfactory data into Ms word and on line versions of the legal analytical framework of the RiMAP platform inacordance with the guidelines provided.
  •  Attend regular meetings concerning to the RiMAP.
  •  Draft and consolidate various documents (reports, summaries, assembly notes, etc.) as may be required.
  •  Conduct other duties relevant to the RiMAP and related duties as may be assigned by the manager.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum skills required: In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • Be a current graduate or current student in a graduate/undergraduate college programme from an Ethiopian university or higher training facility accredited by UNESCO; and have finished at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field applicable or of interest to the work of the Organization.
  • Have experience or prison research and analysis.
  • Have excellent verbal exchange skills with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Be fluent in English, with sturdy drafting and editing skills.
  • Have good trip using the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Be highly organised and have appropriate attention to detail.
  • Be able to multi-task and to prioritise workload.
    Allowance
  • Interns will acquire an allowance to partially help to cowl the cost of food, local transportation and residing expenses.

Other information

The hiring office will provide Food and Local Transportation Allowance calculated in USD and generally payable in local currency by way of bank transfer. Shortlisted candidates will have to undergo an oral interview.This role doesn’t require a functional clearance
