Position :  Officer for National Humanitarian Affairs (NHAO).

THE DUTY AND THE RESPONSIBILITY

  • The National Humanitarian Affairs Officer will carry out the following duties under the direction of the Chief of Planning and Coordination Unit:
  • Help the Inter-Cluster Coordination Group develop its coordination mechanisms and organise, schedule, and see to it that all necessary cluster and working group meetings are prepared in order to aid in the coordination of humanitarian aid in Ethiopia;
  • Support the Inter-Cluster Coordinator in creating the agenda and briefing materials for regular ICCG meetings, first draught minutes, and necessary follow-up on action items;
  • Help the Ethiopian Humanitarian Country Team EHCT by helping to prepare the agenda and briefing materials for meetings, first draught minutes, and action-follow-up.
  • Ensure that information is appropriately exchanged and coordinated with relation to cluster activities and other partners engaged in humanitarian missions in Ethiopia.
  • assist and contribute to the creation of the humanitarian response plan and the overview of humanitarian needs;
  • Plan and assess humanitarian and emergency aid programmes in collaboration with other humanitarian organisations, and make sure that gender-related issues are taken into account as well as the most recent research, lessons learned, and policy guidelines;
  • undertake and support technical assistance and other field missions, such as taking part in interagency multi-sector field excursions to examine in-depth coordination mechanisms for certain coverage areas;
  • Assist your coworkers on the ground (OCHA, partners, and clusters) by exchanging information, providing information on the cycle of the humanitarian programme, rolling up instruments for assessments, etc.
  • facilitate the gathering of information on relief efforts and humanitarian developments;
  • upkeep of the OCHA contact list for essential government counterparts and inter-cluster contacts;
  • carry out additional responsibilities, such as being deployed to other duty locations in Ethiopia as directed by the Chief of Unit.

POSITION REQUIREMENT

Education: A graduate degree in political science, social science, public administration, international studies, economics, or a closely related field from an advanced university (Master’s degree or equivalent). The advanced university degree may be substituted with a first-level university degree and two more years of relevant experience.

Experience: 0 year experience No more than two years of increasingly responsible and pertinent professional experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, rehabilitation, or related fields are required for those with a bachelor’s degree.

  • having substantial on-the-ground expertise in complicated crises, including humanitarian assistance initiatives.
  • Experience with UN or NGO necessary
  • It is imperative to have experience working effectively with government representatives and technical employees as well as a demonstrated capacity to operate in an inter-agency context.
  • Travel options inside the nation
  • Essential are cultural awareness and diplomatic abilities.
