Purpose
The purpose of this external announcement is to attract suitable Child Protection Specialist (Monitoring and Evaluation) candidates interested in working in any of the countries within UNICEF's East and Southern Africa region to respond to emergencies for the next 36 months. The Child Protection Specialist on Monitoring and Evaluation supports the rapid assessments and systematic monitoring on child protection issues before, during and after an emergency.

Responsibilities:
- Support rapid assessments on child protection, including integration of child protection in multi-sectoral assessments. This includes adaptation of data collection tools in collaboration with partners, support to training of facilitators, technical support to data collection and analysis, and review of reports.
- Develop monitoring and evaluation framework for child protection programmes, in collaboration with programme colleagues and partners, and guide programme monitoring efforts, in line with Humanitarian Performance Monitoring system and Level 3 monitoring on Strategic Result Areas, building on existing monitoring mechanisms as appropriate.
- Review monitoring and evaluation aspects of Project Cooperation Agreements and work with Child Protection Information Manager to ensure that relevant information is collected and reported for decision making purposes and for inclusion in Situation Reports.
- Work closely with Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Section and other Programme Sections to ensure that office wide monitoring and evaluation initiatives and those in particular sectors incorporate and/or address child protection concerns where relevant, and liaise with Child Protection Information Manager (under the Child Protection sub-cluster), OCHA and other partners to ensure collaboration on monitoring and evaluation of child protection across the sector to the greatest extent possible.
- Support capacity building needs on child protection monitoring and evaluation within the CO and among relevant partners and provide technical support to other child protection monitoring and evaluation initiatives as necessary.
Job requirements:
Education-
Advanced university degree in international development, human rights, social work, social sciences or other relevant field.
Work Experience-
5 years of experience in programme monitoring and evaluation (qualitative and quantitative), in development and emergency contexts
Demonstrated knowledge of child protection programming
Experience in capacity building efforts on monitoring and evaluation
Language Requirement:-
- Fluency in verbal and written English and/or French (depending on the country office's official language).
- Good written and spoken skills in the language of the humanitarian operation in country of assignment and knowledge of another UN language or a local language is an asset.
